Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is located in Lexington County. Columbia Metropolitan annually serves more than 1.2 million passengers and handles more than 168,000 tons of cargo.
CAE is served by Delta, US Airways and other major airlines with multiple daily flights to key cities, including New York, Chicago, Washington D.C, Houston and Atlanta.
For air cargo needs, CAE is home to UPS (Regional Air Hub), FedEx, DHL Global Forwarding and the airport’s industrial area includes a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ).
The Lexington County Airport, 6J0, is a General Aviation airport owned and operated by the County of Lexington. Located just north of the Town of Pelion, the airport is home to 27 based aircraft. There are 11 box hangars, 10 T-hangars and 1 corporate hangar supporting these based aircraft. The airport also has a terminal building and 24 hour self-service 100 Low Lead (100LL) fueling facility.
The runway is currently closed for a widening project. Once completed it will be 4,335 feet long by 75 feet wide concrete runway. As part of this project, new LED runway lights will be installed. The County of Lexington is also installing WIFI and a WeatherHawk weather station at the terminal building. Both of these projects are expected to be complete in December 2017.
